Hey Guys!! For this weeks Reflective Response, I will be writing about our Pen Pal from Florida. I recently received an email from my Pen Pal, Brooke Barry. It's been really interesting communicating with her, and it's fun because we are in the same STN competition and also in the same grade level. It's also pretty interesting how we have different time zones (5 or 6 hours). But it's also pretty difficult communicating by text message because of this. I'm so excited to meet them when we go up in Florida! Byee!!
Hey Guys!! We just had another STN practice, our 4th STN practice. The Marriott staff were very generous enough to open up their ballroom and let us hold our practice there! To sum everything up, Overall the practice was okay. I thought it went way better than the other practices and we improved. This might have been the best practice we had yet. The topic or title we were given was; "The Worst Vacation Ever". The location of the vacation would be in Hawaii, obviously. We thought that we would have these group of people that go to Hawaii, and their vacation would be the opposite of what they expect, a wreck. The beginning shots is of them excited, packing, and talking about their expectations of a beautiful tropical hotel, flowers, and Hula Dancers. I guess you could say it was a bit like that Nickelodeon Movie, Jinks; so we have bad luck. Then when they actually arrive to Hawaii, they were really disappointed as they discover that there is no tropical hotel and no hula dancers. Then I got allergic to the flowers; I started to sneeze and itch myself. Taylynn fell in the sand and Brooke got her shoes soaked, attempting to grab a shell. Ben M. and Ysabel got sunburned, really, REALLY bad. And in the end, it was officially the worst vacation ever. Bringing Props absolutely helped. We used sunglasses, tourist stuff, extra clothes, and make-up. I brought sunglasses and Ysabel and Ben M. used it with Brooke's makeup. I think when we all contributed props and used it together, it makes a good connection. Brooke and Taylynn put makeup on me to show my itchiness and they also put it on Ysabel and Ben to show sunburn. I think holding the practice at the Marriott also had an effect in our video. The Marriott had various locations to film at, we were even allowed to go to the beach! I think we improved in cooperating and contributing ideas as a team. We all had a part, Micah was filmer, Brooke was Director and Actress, and everyone else had a part acting. Because we all contributed ideas and cooperated, we were all able to settle and agree on a one idea. I think that our video turned out better than our past videos is because we had a strong idea, we stuck to it, and we cooperated. I think this was definitely a big improvement in the movie trailer team. Some things that the Movie Trailer work on is to keep your acting character. What I mean by this is how you continue on something onto the next scene. For example, how I was allergic to the flowers and I was sneezing, I should continuously sneeze and itch my skin. Just like how Ben kept bringing up the Hula Dancers and how he was so excited about it. Another thing we could work on is to finish filming by the production deadline so that the editors have more time to edit the video. Overall, the practice went out great. Every group did awesome and improved well, Good Job guys! The Movie Trailer improved, so awesome job to you folks on the Movie Trailer Team! We all cooperated and contributed to the video, and it was really fun getting to film at the Beach with you guys! Anyways, I hope we all are ready for STN! Honestly, I do think that we should do another STN Practice because every team has something they could work on and it's just good to get practice before we go to STN! Good to Great! Bye (And Yes, I am currently in sweet sixteen practice (; ). Byee Guys!!
Hey Guys! So we just had another STN practice last weekend and we have one coming up this Monday! It's almost time to leave for STN and we want to be ready! If you want to see my other blogs about STN Practice, you can do so here: STN Practice #1 and STN Practice #2 . So this will be a recap on our last STN Practice, #3. Being on the movie trailer team, Mr. M assigned us on our title. The title we were given was "Finding Fred". We took the time, sat down and tossed around our different ideas. Some of us wanted to do different genres, different types of movies that we haven't tried before, being cautious and prepared if we get a various topic at STN. We never tried comedy, and that was new, so that was an option. We were going to do the comedy, but we switched of to more of a serious, adventurous topic instead, a kidnapping. Normally you would think Fred would be the person getting kidnapped, right? Well, in this case, virsa vesa. Fred was the kidnapper and kidnapped Taylynn. In order to find Taylynn, however, we had to find Fred. A person thought that Fred should be an acronym, not necisarily an organization though. We filmed it as Micah (who was F.R.E.D) kidnapped Taylynn, and we would have to find Fred to find Taylynn. Before we were let loose on our Production, Mr. M had a conversation with the Movie Trailer group. He told us about this feature on iMovie with lets you see the whole storyboard for specifically the making of a Movie Trailer. It told us what shot to take and when to place the titles. We ended up not taking this to our advantage, which had an effect on the final product. Not using this definitely made our video not so good. I think on the next STN Practice on Monday we should listen to Mr. M and use the iMovie Storyboard and that will help us improve our video. I think on the next practice we can improve on lots of things. Definitely one is to follow the iMovie Stroyboard and Script. Another thing is to plan. This kind of goes with the iMovie one, because if we just bring the app and follow the types of shots, we pretty much have our script done. As you can see, we have some work to do. I hope that on this next practice on Monday that we will do better. Thanks for reading, Byee!! Hey Guys! This week I'm working the morning announcements so I thought I might share it with you. Most Advisorys turn on their TV to watch the morning announcements where they see 2 leadership students giving the daily news. What most people don't see is past that, the people behind the cameras, the technical people. AKA the Media Productions Class! How this works is there are 4 Groups, I'm group 3, and everyone in your group gets assigned a job and you rotate jobs every week your group works. Here are the jobs: Director- A director tells everyone what to do, they direct. They tell the technical director when to switch, the titler when to fade on and fade off, the Sounds and Microphones to mute/unmute and the Camera persons to fix the cameras. In the beginning, they count down from 5 and point when it's live to notify the Floor Manager. And at the end of the week on Friday, they work the Advisory Game PowerPoint. Technical Director- The technical director controls the transitions. From DDR (Introduction) then to the announcers then back to DDR (Credits). The technical director also merges both screens, called a cross fade so that the camera People can fix the cameras. Titler- The titler creates all the titles for the week and day. The titler creates ending credits, who does what job. Besides the credits, the titler creates titles everyday your working. Changing the day (date, block), the Lunch, and the announcers name. During the live morning announcements, the titler fades pub titles at certain points when told to do so by the director. Sounds and Microphones- Sounds and microphones is the person who controls the audio. When to mute and gets control over how loud and how soft the sound is. Floor Manager- The floor manger is basically the 'director' of the announcers, they are the eyes. They point to an announcer when It's their turn to speak and help guest speakers. When your going live, the director counts down to the floor manager and they counts down to the announcers. Cameras- So what the camera people do is the adjust the cameras. Not only do they fix the cameras so that both announcers are perfectly alligned, but they are also in charge of turning the announcers scripts when they are done speaking that page. As you can see, not one person can run the morning announcements all by themselves. When working morning announcements, cooperation is key. Without your team members and the leadership students, we wouldn't be able to broadcast the news to the students and staff of Chieffess Kamakahelei Middle School. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions we make decisions every day, whether it's minor, like choosing which pair of shoes to wear, or if it's picking the toppings on your pizza; or if it's important, and has a major impact on your life. Being only 11, usually, important decisions don't get left to kids. However, this decision was left to me to decide, whether or not to apply for the Media Productions class. This decision was difficult because I knew it would be a lot of work. I was told its a hard class and not easy to pass. This got me very worried. However, I was very interested in the class by the description of it! Creating news story videos and being on the radio got me curious about the official class. During the Summer Camp Mr.M explained the class thourghly. He explained how it would be so much work and hard effort. His whole lecture got me very scared and worried about, I was debating whether or not to give up my spot! However, I'm glad I didn't because I would never get to experience what I'm doing now. I think I was worried about dissapointing my Mom. Yes, she wants me to do something I want to do, which I am, but if I didn't get in, I think it might have disappointed her. She wanted my brother to apply for Media in his 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years which he never did, so she wanted me to join. It was no problem, however, she was the one who actually got me interested in taking the course, and I'm glad she did. This decision would definitely have an impact on not only me, but my family as well, and also Mr. M and the other classmates. It has had an impact on myself, because I have learned a lot and I have met new people. It has affected my family, my parents and brother because they help in fundraisers towards the trip. Whether it's the golf tournament, or the breakfast, or even the street fairs!! It's affected my classmates and Mr. M, if I need to come in over the break or on weekends So far, the most important decision I have made was wheth to join our media productions class. It has had a great impact on many people including myself. I'm happy and grateful that I got in, and I don't regret my choice. Being in the class has given my many opportunities, knowledge, friends, and experience. Thanks for reading. Byee!! Hey Guys! For my blog about media this week, I will be writing an update on my PSA. If you haven't read my other blog, explaining the idea and message of my PSA, you can read it here. Anyways, I have gotten my script approved in January and gotten the "Okay" to film. I needed 2 Actors and 2 actresses. Finding guy actors was a challenge, then I ended up persuading my brothers friends, Kendall and Kyson. A cousin of mine volunteered and she said she was certain that her friend would do it. Everything was set, location, props, transportation, and Actors/Actresses. I gathered my equipment and filmed on Saturday. Driving to pick up my cousin, was when we ran into conflict. Her friend agreed to do it, but when we went to go pick her up, she changed her mind. I had to find another actress before I met Kendall and Kyson at the park! I called my other cousin and we picked her up. If she didn't agree, I would have asked my neighbors. We met at the park at 12, and we're scheduled to film where the guys could sit on a picnic table. Filming took a while, even though it was only a couple of lines. It was hard to keep the guys serious, we filmed so much shots of them laughing that my SD card got full! After a while (I almost fainted), filming was done and we went back to my house to eat and relax. At the moment I'm in the process of editing, I'm not sure if I have all the shots and I might need to refilm. Hopefully I have decent shots to make my video okay. Until then, thanks for reading, and make sure your read my next blog, "Decisions, Decisions, Decisions". Bye!! |
