Hey Everyone! Today was our last full day here in Florida, and we spent it at Magic Kingdom! We woke up around 7, ate breakfast, and were ready to go. Once we reached Magic Kingdom, we rode Space Mountain. When I was younger, I once rode the same ride, however in California at Disneyland. I didn't really like it then, but now that I am older I decided to try it again. After the ride ended, I could conclude that it wasn't really much of an accelerated thrill rollercoaster, but more of an astronomy ride. You could tell by the photos they took. You could see the stars clearly, especially because the whole area was in the dark. We also rode this train rollercoaster. All the same, it wasn't really a rollercoaster, but more of a ride. There wasn't really and sharp turns or drops. We also rode this Haunted Mansion ride. It was kind of like a Haunted house, except this one you sit in this vehicle that goes on a track. It wasn't really scary, but it had some pretty cool special effects like they had "holograms" projected and other stuff like that. The last ride we went on was "Splash Mountain". We didn't get wet much, but it was pretty funny because some of our classmates were screaming for fun on the little turns and drops. We ended our day at Friendly's, a restaurant where we ate dinner. I ate these little tiny cheeseburgers, they reminded me of Crabby Patties from Spongebob Squarepants. We also got to eat ice cream. I got this Oreo Crumb ice cream thing. We then went home and got little sleep before we had to wake up at 3 am to get ready for our departure of Florida. Byee!!
Hey Everyone! Speaking for myself, today was a fun and happy day. We first went to the Closing Ceremony, then to Gatorland, and then to Downtown Disney! After some tickling and giggles, I finally woke up at 8. We ate breakfast then got ready for the...Closing Ceremony...DUN..DUN..DUN. We arrived to the closing ceremony and everyone was pumped. There was projectors that displayed flashing lights and music that got everyone excited. They announced all of the awards for the Middle School competition. CKTV competed in Spot Feature, PSA, Music Video, Anchoring, Commercial, Movie Trailer and Sweet Sixteen. The Spot Feature team is brought home 1st place, with their prompt: "Making It Look Easy". Good Job to Leanna, Brandon, and Kaden for their amazing video! I would like to congratulate the PSA team that consisted of Justice, Isabel, Dalson, and Kaycee. They got honorable mention with their prompt, "The Golden Rule". It's pretty coincidental because for one of the practice's their prompt was also "The Golden Rule". Music Video team, Lindsey, Kelli, Nicole, Javlynn placed 2nd with the song "Runaway", Awesome job guys! And Marlena and Haven also placed 2nd in the anchoring category. Unfortunately, some teams didn't place, but still, they did a great job and I know they put a lot of effort towards their video. We also won 2nd for Sweet Sixteen broadcast! I was very happy, as I was apart of that team. Overall, the CKTV class will be brining home 5 awards of 7 total competitions. We sat with all of the Hawaii schools and cheered for everyone. Sitting with the Hawaii schools was probably the best and my most favorite part of STN. We cheered so loud, and chanted "Hawaii" even louder! I think I can speak for everyone that we represented the 808 well. I'm very proud to be apart of the CKTV class and be from Hawaii. After the ceremony, we took some photos and alsou a group photo with all the Hawaii schools. We then went to Gatorland. We saw alligators and crocodiles, and watched shows such as Gator Wrestling. However, he didn't really 'wrestle' the gator. Instead, he grabbed it and showed us some things about the gator. I learned the difference between an alligator and a crocodile. It turns it's the spout and the noses! They also showed us something pretty weird, yet unique. The alligators eyes go into it's body when it senses something near. We said "See Ya Later, Alligators" and got a choice between Premium Outlets or Downtown Disney. I chose Downtown Disney, but in the end, I think I made the wrong decision. I didn't really buy anything from Downtown Disney, just a couple of magnets. We also got to eat dinner there, at this restaurant known for their "greatest hot sandwiches". Knowing this, of course, most people got soup. But not me, I got an avocado sandwich-without avocado. I know it sounds a bit crazy...but they do allow it. We arrived back to the hotel and finished packing because we leave the next day. Byee!! Hey Everyone! Today was a long and stressful day for everyone. And I was a part of it, yes. I was competing. I competed and the movie trailer competition with Brooke, Micah, Taylynn, Ysabel and Ben Murray. We arrived to the briefing at nine and they agreed with our topic...face time. It was a very difficult topic for our group. After contemplating on our ideas, we finally switched from horror to romance. Romance wasn't the best choice, and it didn't turn out to be a strong enough idea to carry out with. We ended up filming later at the hotel. We later found out that we didn't capture enough shots because the whole video came out to be 8 seconds under! After the competition, we were able to watch it. We also got to watch Castaics video, which was really good. After everyone's competition ended, we gathered our gifts and got ready to meet up with the Castaic class. I was rushing to get my gift, but I couldn't find one piece of it! I freaked out and turned the whole room upside down finding it. I later realized that it was in a box in this other gift I gave! We ate dinner at Sizzlers and got to bond with our pen pals. Unfortunately, we parted our ways, and took photos together. After dinner, we went to the showcase. They played videos, and games, and we got to see what other schools thought and their creativity. And finally, that leads up to now. I'm sorry this blog is pretty short, but I have to get rest now for tomorrow, sadly, Closing Ceremony. Byee!!! Hey Everyone! So today was the actual official first day of STN. We started the day off by waking up and eating a quick breakfast. Then we were off to the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was pretty cool. There were fun, loud music and some projectors projecting these colorful patterns everywhere. There was also many camera people and an excited crowd. All combined together, you have one awesome ceremony. It was kind of like a wake-up assembly also. There were some speakers and there were some awards accepted for the US Education TV awards ceremony. We also were paid a visit by a pretty cool person, Andrew Jenks. At first I didn't know who he was, but I did after his whole presentation. I learned about the tv shows and films he has created, and his whole start. He told great, funny stories, one about how HBO wanted to visit his office and see his operation, but it turned out he didn't have one, so he tried to fake it to show how "professional" he is. It was pretty funny because of all the ridiculous escuses he came up with, like his office flooded. This reminded me of the conversation we had a few months ago, back in 2013, how it doesn't matter about the equipment or how good it is. But what matters is the whole concept and idea of the whole thing. We also got visited by Student of the Year, Cameron Quan. He spoke to is about the three most important things; Teamwork, Humility, and Motivation. After the ceremony, briefings began. Anchoring, Music Video, and Commercial teams competed today. I wasn't competing today, so the attendies not competing, goes to breakout sessions. Breakout sessions are basically classes, of course relating to media. I went to "The Voice", "Stand Down to The Professionals" and this other one. The first one, the voice, and let me clarify is not like the tv show. It helps you with your voice doing standups, voice overs, and even radios! I chose this class because I really needed help with my voice. After the class, I unfortunately actually didn't learn much. But I did learn that if you yawn before speaking it helps and putting your fingers over your nose also does. Stand down to the Professionals taught about standups; how to position the camera and such. It also talked about scripts and Inwas volunteered to read the script and anchor for everyone. The last one, we just watched videos. This session didn't really help me, unfortunately, I wished I had taken a class from Les Rose. At the end of the day we had a Middle School Mixer or Mix-up. I finally got to meet my Florida pen pal Brooke, and got to see Kimberly from Castaic again. That's it for today, I have to get my rest for tomorrow, Byee!! Hey everyone! I am currently in the ballroom at Rosen Plaza. That's right! Today's the day where we spend sixteen hours creating a video, depending on what category you are in...this is sweet sixteen. The two categories are film, and brodcast. Film creates a short 5 minute movie where they are given a prompt, and need to use the prop they were given and the line in their movie. Brodcast, however, is when you create a whole 10 minute video at the most, consisting of smaller videos, all relating to the prompt given. I'm in the brodcast team with Ben Brady and Lindsey. Bright and Early, Leanna, for Brodcast and Brandon, for film, went with Mr. M to find out what the topics/prompts were. The rest of the class met an hour later at this restaurant in the hotel. The prompt for the brodcast team, was "International Drive" and the prompt for film was "The Big Squeeze". We ate breakfast and sat in our groups to talk about our ideas. At first, I had no idea what "International Drive" meant, so I was pretty worried. We later found out that it was a highway, and a tourist strip that was over 11 miles long and consisted of 6 attractions and lots of shops and restaurants. Our group came up with the idea of doing the history of I-Drive, which is the International Drive's nickname. But the problem was, we had no idea who to interview! We reasearched, and asked around in shops, but no one was willing to do an interview with us! Some of them didn't know anything about the International Drive, some people weren't there, and others just weren't allowed to do an interview with us because they're boss didn't approve. After a while of searching, we decided to compromise, and instead of making it a news story, we made it an informative video, of course with permission. We had some b-roll, and gave the SD card with it on it to Ben so he could start editing while Me and Lindsey got more B-roll. After time passed, we finally collected enough b-roll, and re-recorded standups and Voice Overs. We finally got to editing, and it was really close to 6 pm, when we had to export it to Leanna so she can start editing the final product. After some time of editing, the video was complete. It was only 52 seconds, which was really short, but there wasn't anything we could do to make it longer. Right now, the main editors are editing the final product, and adding in standups and such. That's it for today. Bye Hey guys! Prior to today, we went to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. So today we got to go to the actual Universal Studios. I've actually gone to Universal Studios Hollywood a few years back, but never to Universal Studios Orlando. So today was fun! I woke up at 5:30, and got ready. Yesterday we actually arrived home early, and got to sleep at 10:30, which is pretty early compared to all the other days. We soon found ourselves in the parking lot of Universal Studios, and surprisingly I was very tired despite the long sleep I had yesterday. Today we didn't have a tour-so it was just rides and attractions all day. The first ride we went on was a stimulation for the movie Despicable Me. This simulation was just where you sit down and it vibrates and tilts-not an actual roller coaster simulator. It was in 3-D also, but I dislike the 3-D simulators because it gives me a headache and dizziness. After Despicable Me we went to this big roller coaster. I didn't go on this one, and so did some other people. It was just too intense for me! I mean I could handle the dragon roller coaster, with it's cork screws and cobra rolls (loops) and the speed, but I didn't want to go on this one. It just scares me that it goes vertically straight up in the air really high then you go upside down, but you only have a lap belt! I'm all about safety actually, and the class could only go on single rider because it would take too long to wait in a line with everyone together. We then went to transformers. Transformers is a simulation where two transformers fought and we were recruits for that mission. The mission was to protect the AllSpark from this bad transformer. After transformers we went onto this ride called the Mummy. The Mummy is a rollercoaster but it's in the dark. The Mummy was awesome and had some cool special effects like fire. You could feel the heat blazing across your face as the flame lit up on the roof. Then we went to the Simpson Simulator. I honestly didn't like this ride/stimulator. It was in 3-D and it just made me so dizzy and gave me a headache and some motion sickness. And then we just rode more rides and simulators such as MIB, where you shoot aliens. After that we split up into groups. One went to eat lunch and the other went to go to Universal Studio Islands. I are lunch because I was so hungry and not in the mood for a rollercoaster. I ate this bacon cheeseburger at this 'fast food restaurant'. After lunch we got to go on the playground and have some fun. I loved the playground! Saul, Nicole, Taylynn, Micah, and I played hide and seek tag in the big area. Saul and I had this sort of alliance. It was a HUGE workout and exercise for me. But next time we need to clarify who is actually it because we spent 20 minutes both teams running away from eachother. We eventually went to a water ride. I wore a poncho and my windbreaker so I wouldn't get my clothes wet. The ride was so refreshing especially because we were all so tired from the playground! I rode the water ride twice. We then ate dinner at City Walk, I ate a California Whopper. After that we went home and got all packed because we leave the house tomorrow (now today) and move into the hotel. I'm pretty sad about that though, I know I'm going to miss my own bed and game room :(. Today was fun, and I feel happy about it. But right now, I'm extremely tired, so Bye and make sure you check out Alaysia's Media Blog for an update on Laser Tag with our Florida Pen Pals! Bye!! Hey everyone! We just came back from an exciting day and we're ready for Sweet Sixteen tomorrow! Today we moved out of the house and into the Rosen Plaza Hotel. I will miss the house very much, especially my own bed and the game room. But staying at the Rosen Plaza Hotel where all the other schools will be staying, and where the STN Convention will be held, is just one step closer! We took up luggage a and baggages to the room and then sorted everything out. I shared a room with Aunty Cheryl, Ysabel, and Nicole. We are also neighbors with Lindsey, Halle, Leanna, and Justice who connect doors and rooms with us. After that we went to lunch at Sonic, yes another fast food restaurant. There wasn't an actual restaurant, however. It was more of a park you car and order kind of thing. You pressed buttons and these Sonic workers came out in rollerblades! They could rollerblade and hold your order at the same time, this way they can't get to peoples cars faster. Then we finally got to shop at an actual outlet, not a theme park. We looked around and went into some stores, mostly shoes and clothing stores. Taylynn, Ysabel, Nicole, and I went into this shop called Rue 12. Their clothes were so pretty! I bought two tops sand they were on sale too. We had eventually had to leave and found ourselves in the chairs of an Olive Garden restaurant. I ate spaghetti and then we left for Wonderworks. We were 45 minutes late for it and we were supposed to meet up with our Pen pals there! I brought my Florida Pen Pal gift, but I was later notified that she didn't come. Wonderworks was fun. It looks like an upside down building from both inside and out. The whole place was basically an arcade. There were 2 levels of video games, and the other for laser tag. We played laser tag with most of the class, there were no strangers. Laser tag was really fun. At first, I was confused on where to shoot then later realized that I was shooting in the wrong area 😂. I didn't place, but I ended the game with a score of 3,200. After laser tag we walked back to the Rosen Plaza Hotel and got ready for bed. Annnndddd that pretty much sums it up until now. I got to go, Sweet Sixteen is tomorrow and we want to be well rested!! Byee!! Hey everyone! Today was a thrilling experience and it was a fun time! We went to Hollywood Studios and we went to Epcot again; prior to today we went to Epcot yesterday, you can see my blog about it: here. We first went to Hollywood Studios. It actually had roller coasters, which was amazing! Just like at Epcot, we had a tour to start our journey of Hollywood Studios. I have actually never been to Hollywood Studios, so it was really interesting to get to see what it's all about! The tour was called "The Science Of Disney Imagineering GRAVITY". Although it says "Gravity", most of the tour was about the whole science that comes into play, kinetic and potential energy, mass, velocity, and so much more-not just gravity. We got to see how science plays a big role on roller coasters. To prove this, we were able to go on the "Tower of Terror" ride. In the beginning, I was terrified of this ride. I have a huge fear of heights, and the ride is 13 stories high; that's 199 feet from the ground! However I kinda forced myself to, and there was other classmates going on the ride also. Plus, when is the next time I'm ever going to go to this ride, or even back to DisneyWorld? So I might as well have at least tried the ride. There wasn't much of a wait because the area was vacant at the moment, so our group got the whole elevator to ourselves. The elevator was okay-but the seat belts were really loose. I guess that's the point though. The ride accelerated up, to the 13th floor. However, there wasn't enough time for us to adjust our sitting positions and actually sit back down onto the seat, we automatically dropped back down! I felt a flying sensation, but I was super scared, I got butterflies in my stomach. My stomach got butterflies because the speed of the elevator went faster than the actual speed of gravity! After a few more times up and down the ride was FINALLY over. Overall the ride was okay, but I don't really like it. After the ride we had a discussion about how science plays into it. Then we went on this ride called "Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Featuring Aerosmith". This is definitely my favorite ride here. It's a roller coaster with 3 loopy-loops. This is actually only my first time going on a roller coaster that has a loop, so I was nervous, but for the most part just really excited. The ride was awesome! It was thrilling; the ride was fast and had sharp turns and rough edges. There were some drops and spins, and loops. But what made it also cool was that it was in the dark and they played loud music! The music just made everything so hype and fun, even though it was really loud. At the start of the roller coaster, it goes really fast and takes your photo. We watched a video where it showed how they use these magnetics that pushed all the other magnetics and then finally pushing the cart/limo fast. We only rode 2 rides within the tour, then we were set free; the tour was done. We were allowed to do anything we wanted, go on any rides. After eating a bacon burger, which was my lunch, we went on rides. While some people went on the Tower of Terror another time, I was apart of this group that went to stand in line for the individual player for Rock 'n' Roll. The ride ended and we also went on this Star Tour Simulator and this Toy Story game. The Star Tour we just sat in our seat and it moved us around; vibrating and shaking while we watched a short video. I didn't really like it though, I mean it was okay, but it just got me really dizzy. Then we went and played almost like a mini game for toy story. Taylynn and I partnered up, and we were competing against each otherwise who got the most points. She won, by a grueling of 15,000 points, embarrassing. We left Hollywood Studios to go to Epcot again. Mr. M helped out his friend, Mr. John Allen, the Waianiae Media Productions Class Teacher. He was going to ask his girlfriend to marry him. So three media schools all gathered up at Epcot where we did a formation and acted as if we were taking a group photo, but there was actually some Waianiae classmates holding up a banner saying "Will you marry me?". It was just too cute! She said yes, and they even got matching shirts! After everything cleared up, we went back to Hollywood studios and I just shopped until it was time to leave the theme park. We ate dinner at Golden Corral, with the help of Mr. M's treat. THANK YOU MR. M! It was really nice of him to pay for our dinner. After dinner we just went back home, took a shower, and here I am writing my blog. I got to go, Byee!! Hey Everyone!! Before I start telling you about my day, I'd like to say, Happy Saint Patrick's day! Anyways, Today we got home from Universal Studios early, so I decided to start on my blogs. I think it was a fun, exciting, and thrilling experience for everyone. We went to Universal Studios, specifically the Islands Of Adventure. We took a tour, then went on intricate rides, fast roller coasters, and thrilling attractions! Keep reading to know more about we did! I woke up at 5:30, and this time I actually woke up to my alarm unlike yesterday. I got changed, and today's shirt was a light lime green shirt-to match Saint Patrick's Day. Good thing I wore green, no pinches for me! We then took a long drive to Universal Studios Isalnd of Adventure. We started our 'adventure' with a tour. We had a tour with this guy named Seth and with this other lady as well. What was special about this tour was that instead of the tour guide yelling over the crowd and the noise so everyone can hear, we had to bring earphones or headphones to plug in to this receiver. This allowed the audio to be able to be heard from Seth's microphone. We started off the tour by just some fun facts about the place and that kind of stuff. Seth explained that Universal Studios is not only an amusement park, but also a theme park. The difference between the two is that an amusement park amuses people and a theme park has things based off of a theme, it has a background story. You can really tell that Universal Studios Islands is a theme park because of just the amount of effort put into the whole park. Everywhere you went, there was matching music, scenery, and even people! Everything is themed. For example, in Hogwarts, the Harry Potter Island, they don't sell sodas there, because in the books and movies they don't have any soda! Instead, they drink a beverage called Butter Beer. You can find butter beer vendors all over the Harry Potter Island! I tried some butter beer, (and no, it's not an actual alcohol beverage), it was pretty delicious! Anyways, went you step into a different world, everything changes to match that worlds' theme. The music, scenery, the floor pattern and even the people casts' change! They talk in a different accent and they even wear a certain attire to fit the theme! But what's really sick is that once you step into a different world, you are pretty much cut off and you're only in that world. For example, if I was in one world with happy music and I walk into a world with scary music, I would only hear the scary music despite the fact that they are literally right next to each other. So you can really tell the amount of effort they put in to match themes of different places and you can tell very much that this is a theme park. Other rides and attractions we went on were The Amazing Spider-Man, the Hulk, and the Dragon Rollercoaster. They were all thrilling and exciting. My favorite is either the hulk or the dragon Rollercoaster. Both of them have big cobra loops and screws but the dragon Rollercoaster goes upside down most of the time Overall, it was a fun day. We laughed, talked, and screamed our guts out on the rides, despite the fact that it was pouring rain the whole day! I took some photos and bought some souviners, but wait until we go to the actual Universal Studios tomorrow! It's going to be fantastic! Stay tunned and check frequently on Alaysia's Media Blog tomorrow to see what Universal Studios is like.
