Hey Everyone! So as you know, Fourth Quarter projects have rolled in and filming starts soon. So for this weeks, reflective response, I will be writing about my experience helping Taylynn and Javlynn with their Music Video filming on this past Tuesday and Wednesday. They were doing the song, "Falling For You" by Colbie Callait and wanted me to be a background actor, or an Extra in their Music Video. So I thought, why not? I mean, we are all apart of the CKTV Ohana and we should help out our classmates. So originally the filming was on Tuesday with Javlynn filming, with Dodger and Taylynn as the main actors, extra's Isabel, Saul, and Lily, Rachel, and Kysen (Taylynn's friends) and myself. Apparently there was a dancing scene, so the Extras had to slow dance (which I wasn't too excited about). But the problem was, most of the actors didn't know how to slow dance, so they had to spend time teaching them. However, that filming didn't work out as planned because of everyone's tight schedule, some people had to leave early because they had sports practice or other after school activities. Next time, I suggest maybe doing a filming on the weekend maybe or when everyone's day is free to avoid the problem. So Taylynn and Javlynn scheduled another filming on Wednesday, this time at KCC and not at the school. This time Brandon and Taylynn were main actors, along with Javlynn, Taylynn's friend, and I as background actors. And Ben Brady also came to help them which was very nice! Filming again was okay, and I hope Taylynn and Javlynn were able to get some good shots and enough shots for they're music video. That's it for my reflective response! Thanks for reading, Bye!!
Hey Everyone! As you all know, the CKTV Media Productions class recently went up to Orlando, Florida for two weeks to compete at the Student Television Network convention. Spending two weeks in Florida, we have learned a lot of things; from spending time together to breakout sessions to STN. But are the most valuable I learned? I think the M.V.L. of the trip would be sportsmanship, cooperate together, and make everyone be apart of the CKTV Ohana. My first valuable lesson I'd like to share with you is sportsmanship; be a good sport. I learned this at the STN convention because at STN, you need to be a good sport. Meaning, if you see other Middle Schoolers, be fair and be kind to then, and don't treat them bad just because your competing against them. I also learned you need to be a good sport during the closing ceremony. Meaning, when they are announcing the winners, clap for everyone. If you did place, don't insult the other schools and brag about it. Yes, it is a time to be happy but don't run it in their faces. Even if you didn't win, still clap-and don't be a sour lemon about it. Tell your teammates good job, and congratulate other teams that placed. And when you see other schools like Castaic, congratulate them and tell them good job! Being a good sport is very important, not only regarding STN, but regarding everything! The next valuable lesson I'd like to share with you is to cooperate together. What I mean by this is to work together. When you work together, you can get more done and it makes everyone feel apart. I learned this at the STN convention, we all had to work together when we were competing in the Movie Trailer and Sweet Sixteen broadcast competitions. It's very vital that you work together and get along because if you don't, then everyone will start arguing, thus you won't get anything done and it will go haywire. Cooperating is especially important for Sweet Sixteen Broadcast. As you know, we are all split up into groups that create individual videos, then we give it to the main editor. The main editor then takes all of the groups submitions and puts it into one final video. So if you don't cooperate and get your groups individual video done, you can give it to the main editors. Not cooperating takes a toll and effects not only you. My last valuable lesson kind of ties together with the previous lesson, make everyone feel apart of the CKTV Ohana. I can't really pinpoint a specific time where I learned this, but I'll say that it was the time spent with the class (I can't elaborate any more sorry). We spent a lot of time together and we all were able to bond with eachother. It's very important to make everyone feel like a whole in this class because if not, not only does it hurt their feelings, but it decreases the ability to cooperate because you might be fighting or arguing. Which then takes an effect on our class. But when you do treat everyone fairly, you develop more friendships with people, which is always good! Overall, this trip has taught me lots of lessons, but the three most valuable lessons I learned was to be a good sport, cooperate with eachother, and treat everyone fairly, because we are a Ohana. I hope you enjoyed my blog! And make sure you go check out my reflective response, "Fourth Quarter Project" where I tell you about what I will be doing for Fourth Quarter. Thanks for reading! Bye!! Hey Everyone! Fourth Quarter is finally here! The year has gone by so fast! So for this week's reflective response, I will be writing to you about what I will be doing for my Fourth Quarter project. In fourth quarter, Mr. M gives us the privilege of working with anyone we want, and doing any type of video for our project. Meaning, you could do a news feature story (like how we had to do in First and Second quarter), or you could do another P.S.A. (like in Third quarter), or you could do a Music Video, Movie Trailer, Short Film, Commercial, or a different choice of video you have in mind! I chose to do a Music Video, with Justice. In summer camp, Justice and I were partners along with Javlynn, so it will be fun to get to work with her again. We talked about some songs, and we finally decided to do it on the song, "One Step At A Time" by Jordin Sparks. The song is about what the song suggests, taking things one step at a time. So whether you are learning a new thing, the song tells you to take your time and slowly work your way up to achieve your goal. Even though, sometimes it may be hard and challenging, you just need to try and with enough effort, you will succeed. We started on the treatment and script and we will work on it over the weekend, and hopefully are able to show it to Mr. M before Wednesday. That's all for my blog, I'll post more updates a
Hey Everyone! So as you all know by now, it's been over a week since we got back from our trip to Orlando, Flordia. Staying in Florida for two weeks has done me good; it was a fun and great learning experience. Not only did we get to visit a university and a news brodcast station, but we also got a tour around the Amway center, got the privalage to watch an official NBA game, going to theme parks and had tours, going to Gatorland, and we also got to compete at STN. But honestly, this whole trip wouldn't be possible if it weren't for Mr. M, our chaperones, and the support from everyone. So I'd just like to thank Aunty Cheryl, Aunty Shar, Aunty Linda, Uncle Glenn, Uncle Dale, Aunty Genevive and Mr.M. I'd also like to thank my parents and everyone else for the support in my fundraisers. This has been the best trip of my life! I learned so much and I got to bond with the class a lot. I don't know if you remember this blog: "How Excited Am I?" (If you don't, you can read it by clicking the hyperlink). Anyways, that blog was assigned by Mr. M, to write about your expectations for the Flordia Trip. I wrote about four expectations, number one to bond with the class, number two to meet our pen pals, number three to the STN convention, and number four, the tour of the Amway center and the game. Well, I'm just going to say straight off the bat, they were all met. I most definitely feel that I have bonded with the class; I feel much closer to some of them than I have before the trip (being that I spent 14 days with them). Not only did I get to meet both of my pen pals, but I also met my expectation of it. Both Kimberly and Brooke were really nice and I enjoyed the time I got to spend with them! My third expectation was the STN convention. Before the trip I didn't know what to expect. I was nervous, worried, and curious. But now that I have attended the convention, I know what to expect and I have a better idea of it. And my last expectation was the tour of the Amway center and the NBA game. The tour was pretty neat. They showed us around 7 floors! But I was a bit disappointed because I thought they were going to show us how they broadcasted the game, but the tour was great! You could tell media plays a big role In the Amway Center because they have a whole floor dedicated just for Media! The game was awesome also. I understood the game, and although the Orlando Magic lost, it was fun. Overall, my expectations were met and this trip has been great, yes great. Byee!! Hey Everyone! So for this weeks assigned blog topic we are supposed to write about our advice for next year's CKTV class when competing at STN. As you all are familiar with, the media productions class went to Orlando, Florida to compete at the Student Television Network Convention. Our class ended up winning 5 of 8 awards: 2nd place Sweet Sixteen Broadcast, 1st place Spot Feature, 2nd place Anchoring, 2nd place Music video, and honorable mention PSA. I was apart of 2 teams, Movie Trailer and Sweet Sixteen broadcast. Unfortunately, Movie Trailer did not place, but that's okay because it was a good experience. My advice for next year's, 2015 CKTV class is to use your time wisely, be creative and have realistic ideas, and to be focused and calm. This advice will be going for everyone-no matter what competition you are in, use your time wisely. This means don't procrastinate! Focus on your goal of meeting your deadline, don't rush everything or else your final product will turn out sloppy and messy. But also don't be a slow poke because then you won't get anything done and it reduces your time to submit your video and meet the deadline on time. You want to find a place in between the two, you want to balance and level yourself. Find a good pace, enough to do quality work, and enough to meet the deadline. And here's a tip for both competitions. When under a tight timed competition, multitask! These competitions are always in groups, so while two people are filming, the others can go and record or write voice overs. And if your in Broadcast Sweet Sixteen, one person can start editing while the others shoot stand-ups and voice overs. This way you will be using your time wisely-you'll be getting multiple things done in the same amount of time! If you ever heard of that expression, killing two birds with one stone! And for the new Movie Trailer team, this goes for you. Don't spend too much time thinking about your ideas. That means don't change your ideas a lot and make sure that idea is strong enough to carry out. If you take too much time thinking of your idea, you will have less production time to film, thus, cutting off of your editing time. But don't take too little time to plan and think of your idea. Your idea might not be good enough or strong enough for your group and you will find that out during the filming. So remember to take a reasonable amount of time to plan a good and strong idea to stick with. My next advice (this is more toward movie trailer team) is to be creative but realistic when brainstorming for ideas. Let your mind open and let everyone pitch in ideas. Then narrow down your choices to your best idea. But you want to make sure your idea is something your team is capable of, enough to carry out throughout the competition. Make sure your idea is first off good, strong, and original. You want to keep in mind that the judges will be watching tons of videos, so you want yours to stick out from the pile. But remember from my first piece of advice, don't waste too much time thinking of your idea.
And my third piece of advice for both competitions is to be focused and calm. Yes, the competitions will be stressful and pressuring, but if you freak out it doesn't benefit your team. Take deep breaths and relax and picture the end result. Be focused. Don't doze off or get distracted or procrastinate. You need to realize that this is the real thing. That this is what you came here to do. Yes, you messed around during practices and had some fun but when it's competition time it's time to be serious. Get your head in the game and do your best. These are my three pieces of advice I can offer the 2015 CKTV students. Use your time wisely, be creative but realistic, and be focused and calm. If you follow my advice, I promise you that your chances of placing is greater. Sweet Sixteen Broadcast and Movie Trailer are both great and fun competitions to compete in, and if you do choose these competitions, i suggest following my advice. That's it for my blog! Byee!! Hey Everyone! Today was our last full day here in Florida, and we spent it at Magic Kingdom! We woke up around 7, ate breakfast, and were ready to go. Once we reached Magic Kingdom, we rode Space Mountain. When I was younger, I once rode the same ride, however in California at Disneyland. I didn't really like it then, but now that I am older I decided to try it again. After the ride ended, I could conclude that it wasn't really much of an accelerated thrill rollercoaster, but more of an astronomy ride. You could tell by the photos they took. You could see the stars clearly, especially because the whole area was in the dark. We also rode this train rollercoaster. All the same, it wasn't really a rollercoaster, but more of a ride. There wasn't really and sharp turns or drops. We also rode this Haunted Mansion ride. It was kind of like a Haunted house, except this one you sit in this vehicle that goes on a track. It wasn't really scary, but it had some pretty cool special effects like they had "holograms" projected and other stuff like that. The last ride we went on was "Splash Mountain". We didn't get wet much, but it was pretty funny because some of our classmates were screaming for fun on the little turns and drops. We ended our day at Friendly's, a restaurant where we ate dinner. I ate these little tiny cheeseburgers, they reminded me of Crabby Patties from Spongebob Squarepants. We also got to eat ice cream. I got this Oreo Crumb ice cream thing. We then went home and got little sleep before we had to wake up at 3 am to get ready for our departure of Florida. Byee!! Hey Everyone! Speaking for myself, today was a fun and happy day. We first went to the Closing Ceremony, then to Gatorland, and then to Downtown Disney! After some tickling and giggles, I finally woke up at 8. We ate breakfast then got ready for the...Closing Ceremony...DUN..DUN..DUN. We arrived to the closing ceremony and everyone was pumped. There was projectors that displayed flashing lights and music that got everyone excited. They announced all of the awards for the Middle School competition. CKTV competed in Spot Feature, PSA, Music Video, Anchoring, Commercial, Movie Trailer and Sweet Sixteen. The Spot Feature team is brought home 1st place, with their prompt: "Making It Look Easy". Good Job to Leanna, Brandon, and Kaden for their amazing video! I would like to congratulate the PSA team that consisted of Justice, Isabel, Dalson, and Kaycee. They got honorable mention with their prompt, "The Golden Rule". It's pretty coincidental because for one of the practice's their prompt was also "The Golden Rule". Music Video team, Lindsey, Kelli, Nicole, Javlynn placed 2nd with the song "Runaway", Awesome job guys! And Marlena and Haven also placed 2nd in the anchoring category. Unfortunately, some teams didn't place, but still, they did a great job and I know they put a lot of effort towards their video. We also won 2nd for Sweet Sixteen broadcast! I was very happy, as I was apart of that team. Overall, the CKTV class will be brining home 5 awards of 7 total competitions. We sat with all of the Hawaii schools and cheered for everyone. Sitting with the Hawaii schools was probably the best and my most favorite part of STN. We cheered so loud, and chanted "Hawaii" even louder! I think I can speak for everyone that we represented the 808 well. I'm very proud to be apart of the CKTV class and be from Hawaii. After the ceremony, we took some photos and alsou a group photo with all the Hawaii schools. We then went to Gatorland. We saw alligators and crocodiles, and watched shows such as Gator Wrestling. However, he didn't really 'wrestle' the gator. Instead, he grabbed it and showed us some things about the gator. I learned the difference between an alligator and a crocodile. It turns it's the spout and the noses! They also showed us something pretty weird, yet unique. The alligators eyes go into it's body when it senses something near. We said "See Ya Later, Alligators" and got a choice between Premium Outlets or Downtown Disney. I chose Downtown Disney, but in the end, I think I made the wrong decision. I didn't really buy anything from Downtown Disney, just a couple of magnets. We also got to eat dinner there, at this restaurant known for their "greatest hot sandwiches". Knowing this, of course, most people got soup. But not me, I got an avocado sandwich-without avocado. I know it sounds a bit crazy...but they do allow it. We arrived back to the hotel and finished packing because we leave the next day. Byee!! Hey Everyone! Today was a long and stressful day for everyone. And I was a part of it, yes. I was competing. I competed and the movie trailer competition with Brooke, Micah, Taylynn, Ysabel and Ben Murray. We arrived to the briefing at nine and they agreed with our topic...face time. It was a very difficult topic for our group. After contemplating on our ideas, we finally switched from horror to romance. Romance wasn't the best choice, and it didn't turn out to be a strong enough idea to carry out with. We ended up filming later at the hotel. We later found out that we didn't capture enough shots because the whole video came out to be 8 seconds under! After the competition, we were able to watch it. We also got to watch Castaics video, which was really good. After everyone's competition ended, we gathered our gifts and got ready to meet up with the Castaic class. I was rushing to get my gift, but I couldn't find one piece of it! I freaked out and turned the whole room upside down finding it. I later realized that it was in a box in this other gift I gave! We ate dinner at Sizzlers and got to bond with our pen pals. Unfortunately, we parted our ways, and took photos together. After dinner, we went to the showcase. They played videos, and games, and we got to see what other schools thought and their creativity. And finally, that leads up to now. I'm sorry this blog is pretty short, but I have to get rest now for tomorrow, sadly, Closing Ceremony. Byee!!! Hey Everyone! So today was the actual official first day of STN. We started the day off by waking up and eating a quick breakfast. Then we were off to the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was pretty cool. There were fun, loud music and some projectors projecting these colorful patterns everywhere. There was also many camera people and an excited crowd. All combined together, you have one awesome ceremony. It was kind of like a wake-up assembly also. There were some speakers and there were some awards accepted for the US Education TV awards ceremony. We also were paid a visit by a pretty cool person, Andrew Jenks. At first I didn't know who he was, but I did after his whole presentation. I learned about the tv shows and films he has created, and his whole start. He told great, funny stories, one about how HBO wanted to visit his office and see his operation, but it turned out he didn't have one, so he tried to fake it to show how "professional" he is. It was pretty funny because of all the ridiculous escuses he came up with, like his office flooded. This reminded me of the conversation we had a few months ago, back in 2013, how it doesn't matter about the equipment or how good it is. But what matters is the whole concept and idea of the whole thing. We also got visited by Student of the Year, Cameron Quan. He spoke to is about the three most important things; Teamwork, Humility, and Motivation. After the ceremony, briefings began. Anchoring, Music Video, and Commercial teams competed today. I wasn't competing today, so the attendies not competing, goes to breakout sessions. Breakout sessions are basically classes, of course relating to media. I went to "The Voice", "Stand Down to The Professionals" and this other one. The first one, the voice, and let me clarify is not like the tv show. It helps you with your voice doing standups, voice overs, and even radios! I chose this class because I really needed help with my voice. After the class, I unfortunately actually didn't learn much. But I did learn that if you yawn before speaking it helps and putting your fingers over your nose also does. Stand down to the Professionals taught about standups; how to position the camera and such. It also talked about scripts and Inwas volunteered to read the script and anchor for everyone. The last one, we just watched videos. This session didn't really help me, unfortunately, I wished I had taken a class from Les Rose. At the end of the day we had a Middle School Mixer or Mix-up. I finally got to meet my Florida pen pal Brooke, and got to see Kimberly from Castaic again. That's it for today, I have to get my rest for tomorrow, Byee!! Hey everyone! I am currently in the ballroom at Rosen Plaza. That's right! Today's the day where we spend sixteen hours creating a video, depending on what category you are in...this is sweet sixteen. The two categories are film, and brodcast. Film creates a short 5 minute movie where they are given a prompt, and need to use the prop they were given and the line in their movie. Brodcast, however, is when you create a whole 10 minute video at the most, consisting of smaller videos, all relating to the prompt given. I'm in the brodcast team with Ben Brady and Lindsey. Bright and Early, Leanna, for Brodcast and Brandon, for film, went with Mr. M to find out what the topics/prompts were. The rest of the class met an hour later at this restaurant in the hotel. The prompt for the brodcast team, was "International Drive" and the prompt for film was "The Big Squeeze". We ate breakfast and sat in our groups to talk about our ideas. At first, I had no idea what "International Drive" meant, so I was pretty worried. We later found out that it was a highway, and a tourist strip that was over 11 miles long and consisted of 6 attractions and lots of shops and restaurants. Our group came up with the idea of doing the history of I-Drive, which is the International Drive's nickname. But the problem was, we had no idea who to interview! We reasearched, and asked around in shops, but no one was willing to do an interview with us! Some of them didn't know anything about the International Drive, some people weren't there, and others just weren't allowed to do an interview with us because they're boss didn't approve. After a while of searching, we decided to compromise, and instead of making it a news story, we made it an informative video, of course with permission. We had some b-roll, and gave the SD card with it on it to Ben so he could start editing while Me and Lindsey got more B-roll. After time passed, we finally collected enough b-roll, and re-recorded standups and Voice Overs. We finally got to editing, and it was really close to 6 pm, when we had to export it to Leanna so she can start editing the final product. After some time of editing, the video was complete. It was only 52 seconds, which was really short, but there wasn't anything we could do to make it longer. Right now, the main editors are editing the final product, and adding in standups and such. That's it for today. Bye |
