Warning: If you have not seen Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, and are planning to, I suggest skipping this paragraph. NOTE: This is a really long paragraph, Sorry about that
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters is a sequel to Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief. Percy Jackson is a Half-blood, half human and half demi-god. He is the Son of Posiedon and because he is a half-blood, he gets sent to a camp named "Camp Half-Blood", where it protects all the Half-Bloods, and abnormal demi-gods. Barely anyone who got sent to Camp Half-Blood made it through the gates alive. Monsters and Cyclops haunt the forest where the Camp Lays. However, the camp is safe now, all because of a girl named Talia, daughter of Zeus. Long ago, when 3 children were sent to Camp Half-Blood, a Cyclops crossed their path. Talia, was one of the three, and sacraficed herself to get the 2 others to safety. She took on the challenge and proved her bravery, fighting with a knife, but unfortunately suffered defeat. She lay there, dying a slow and painful death. However, Zeus figured out a way to save her, for her to become a pine tree, and part of the forest. She was the barrier, and the Protecter of Camp Half-Blood, She developed a shield around the camp. In the second movie, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, the forcefield fell into smithereens, and the camp was wide open to Monsters and mythical creatures. This meant, something was wrong with Talia, she must be injured or dying. A red bull entered into the camp and attacks the half-bloods, during an athletic competition. Clarisse won, and Percy came in 2nd, as usual, because he saved a fellow kid from falling. Together, it's an on going feud, who wins. All of the demigods fought the strong, mechanical bull, but it was too powerful. Percy came across the bull, however, he was isolated. No one could help him, it was just him, the bull, his sword, and his brain. He thought clever and he leapt to the bull, opening his sword so it would go through the monster's mouth, into the "heart" or the center of the bull; creating it too explode. It turns out that Luke had poisoned Talia, and he let the bull in. He talks to Percy, asking him to join him, speaking of this prophecy. Percy is confused, unaware that there is a prophecy written about him and Luke. He is in even more confusion when he finds out that he has a brother, that is a CYCLOPS (he isn't a halfblood), named Tyson. Annabeth is afraid, and she dislikes Tyson from the start, because he is a Cyclops. Percy learns about the prophecy Luke talked about that stated: "Any ancestors that is a halfblood of Zeus, Posiedon, and Hades, either to save, Olympus, or destroy it" Grover and Annabeth come up with this genius idea to go after the golden fleece, a blanket that can save anything or anyone, to save the tree. It's Brilliant, except everyone who has ever gone after the fleece has not come back. Mr.D then announces that Clarisse will be taking lead on this quest, and not Percy. Ignoring the fact that Percy was not assigned on this mission, he convinces Grover and Annabeth to join him and save Olympus, he believing it is a part of the prophecy, to Save Olympus. Tyson also comes along, with his noisey backpack. They get sucked into a whirlpool, in the sea of monsters where they encounter Clarisse, and a bunch of zombies as her workers, who also got sucked in. Together as a team, with Percy leader, he captured the golden fleece from the Cyclops. However, Luke shows up and takes the Fleece away, shooting Tyson with a crossbow bolt, and he falls into a river. The team finds out that Luke has plans for the fleece to bring Kronos, the evil, hateful father of the Elder Gods, back to life. Kronos was chopped up into pieces by Zeus, Hades, and Posiedon and they escaped. He was so evil that he even had a taste in his mouth for his own children! Luke brought Kronos back to life, where Kronos then ate him. The team, and Tyson, who had been healed by water (because he is the son of Posiedon) defeats Lukes team. Percy kills Kronos with his sword, which was actually a very special blade named Riptide, and was the "cursed blade" of the prophecy. Once the battle was done, the team was very happy. Annabeth went to congratulate Percy on his success, as he doubted that he ever accomplished anything. However, Annabeth was stabbed in the back, by one of Luke's Pet Monsters, literally. They used the Fleece on her and she survived. The team returned to camp, where Percy let Clarisse do the honors, because after all, it was her quest. After Clarisse lay the fleece on the tree, not only did it restore camp half-blood to it's safety, and the pine tree, but it was so powerful that it saved Talia herself! Young Talia the daughter of the Zeus who is one of the Eldest gods,, was alive, and older. Now the question at the end that lingers in both mine and Percy's mind, was the prophecy talking about Percy saving Olympus, or was it talking about Talia to cause Destruction? Halle and Isabel is smart.
I think my favorite part of the movie was probably the end, where Talia comes to life. I love it how they made Percy do a voice over on how he wasn't sure about the prophecy, because now he isn't the only half-blood that is an ancestor of the Elder Gods. It makes me wonder, and excited for the next Percy Jackson movie to come out so that I can fill in that missing blank in my mind. Was she brought back for a reason? Will she destroy Olympus, forcing Percy to Save it? Or will they both save it as a team? Or not? I think it's excellent how they ended it with a cliff-hanger.
I think my favorite Character in the movie is Tyson. I think he is my favorite because, he is so different compared to all the other kids at camp just because he is a Cyclops. He is considered an outcast. Though, All he wants is a brother. You can tell because he is always calling Percy "brother" and he even took a crossbow bolt for Percy! But he is so ashamed and embarrassed that he is a one-eyed Mythical Creature. He uses sunglasses to hide it and uses this spray to make him look normal. Annabeths grudge over Cyclops disappears and Tyson gets a brother, and friends, who think he's perfect just the way he is.
Over all, I think it was a very interesting story and was an amazing movie. I think they had a lot of great actors and it just flowed all together. It had some shots from unusual angles, and pretty cool special effects. Here are some pictures from the movie:
